Day 9 Update

Updated Gear from 6th Edition and the Weaponry of the Future!

There are lots of colony and frontier worlds out there scraping by with what they have. There are even more mercenaries and pirates making due with hand-me-down weapons their crew may have been using for 50 years. It’s not uncommon to see weapons and armor in use that are woefully out of date compared with the state-of-the-art. During the design phase it occurred to us that even an antique Battlelords weapon would probably exceed state-of-the-art today.

Let’s look at a contemporary example. John Browning’s venerable 1911 pistol is still widely used today, and perhaps is more popular than ever. Though that weapon was designed in the early 1900s, there is no doubt the modern versions contain many improvements and materials not found on the original models furnished to the US Army in 1906 for testing. So we have a weapon whose original design is now over 100 years old, which is still widely in use today. Albeit with some significant improvements.

If we follow that pattern and assume that there might still be some 100 year old antiques floating around the Battlelords universe, that would mean a weapon that was manufactured around the year 2175. That “antique” was made roughly 150 years in our future. With that realization firmly in mind we went about updating and modernizing some of the weapons and equipment in the game, within the constraints of the Battlelords universe. There are some areas of technological development that have been intentionally stifled by the Mutzachans and for good reason, so don’t expect to see many automated systems or much nanotechnology. More on that later.
